Boys and Girls (ages 5 & 6)

WSV’s entry level program offers an exciting holistic program for boys and girls. Children in this group learn to match pitch, sing in an ensemble, and develop their head voice to express musical ideas in songs and fun musical activities. NOVA is an un-auditioned program.

Minnesingers

Boys and Girls (ages 7 & 8)

Choristers experience their first steps as choral musicians and are introduced to the basics of vocal technique, early music reading and listening skills in choral repertoire chosen especially for this age. Minnesingers is an auditioned choir.

Choraliers

Girls (ages 9 & 10)

Choraliers hone their vocal technique, ensemble singing, music literacy, and listening skills through development of strong choral independence as they explore diverse and exciting choral music selections. Choraliers is an auditioned choir.

Chorale

Girls (ages 11 – 13)

This ensemble provides a stimulating experience for singers. Choristers work together to produce exceptional tone colour, vibrant sound and strong choral independence. Chorale choristers are sought after for guest appearances throughout the year which can include an annual daytrip with the Ragazzi choristers for combined choir performances and fun activities. Chorale is an auditioned choir.

Ragazzi

Boys (ages 9 – changing voice)

Ragazzi provides a stimulating experience for boys with unchanged voices. Choristers are challenged to develop their personal vocal technique, strong head voice tone, music reading and listening skills. Ragazzi choristers are sought after for guest appearances throughout the year which can include an annual day-trip with the Chorale choristers for combined choir performances and fun activities. Ragazzi is an auditioned choir.

Cantemus

Soprano/Alto Voices (ages 14 – 18)

This internationally acclaimed, award-winning choir provides an exceptional choral experience. Choristers are challenged to develop their personal voice technique, music reading and listening skills with repertoire that reflects current topics that young singers relate to, traditional choral repertoire, and world premieres. Cantemus is a frequent guest choir for professional music organizations. A performing day tour is often included in their busy schedule. Cantemus is an auditioned choir.

Potenza

Tenor/Bass Voices (ages 14 – 20)

Potenza offers a choral ensemble for changed and changing voices, a next-step for Ragazzi ‘grads’ and developing tenors and basses. Continuing with vocal and music literacy development, Potenza choristers often combine with Cantemus for WSV concerts and frequesnt guest appearances. A performing day tour is often included in their busy schedule. Potenza is an auditioned choir.

WSV Singers

Members of Cantemus and Potenza

Cantemus and Potenza combine for this ensemble for an SATB experience. Singers have enjoyed acclaim in national and international festivals. WSV Singers can include guest appearances outside of the WSV concert series and a performing day tour in their concert schedule.

WSV Chamber Ensemble

Sopranos/Altos (ages 18 – 28)

The Chamber Ensemble offers the post-secondary singer an upper voices choral experience to perform advanced repertoire at a top level. The WSV Chamber Ensemble rehearses weekly offering young musicians high calibre vocal and aural training in an atmosphere that is focused and inclusive. Invitations to perform world premieres and orchestra choral works with professional music organizations outside WSV concert series can be in the Chamber Ensemble schedule, as well as combining with other WSV choirs. The WSV Chamber Ensemble is an auditioned choir.
